We’re a month away from finally closing 2020, and the most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner. Spending the upcoming holiday season might be a little different this time, but if there’s one way to fast forward the stress of 2020, that is to unwind with a much-deserved Christmas #staycation. While there’s no downtime on the rise of hotel chains in Thailand, I’m longing for that old classic Bangkok feeling I first experienced 10 years ago.
The cool BER months is here so I trimmed down my search on boutique hotels in the city for an intimate and cozy stay. I thought there’s no better address to discover more of Bangkok than in the old town. At the heart of historic districts in the Chao Phraya River banks, I was delighted to discover Chakrabongse Villas. The award-winning boutique hotel was originally built as a retreat from the palace life of HRH Prince Chakrabongse in 1908. Today, in the hands of his granddaughter, Narisa, a thoughtful effort to create an environmental-friendly place took place: a lush garden and a salt-water pool to encourage a more sustainable lifestyle for its guests.
A Lush Garden and a Salt-Water Pool to Encourage a Sustainable Lifestyle.
Entering the property immediately evoked the feeling of the old-world charm that I miss in this modern city. I was immediately accompanied to my room and they gave me a warm welcome at the River View Suite. The Thai-style apartment is made entirely of teak wood, with Jim Thompson fabrics and exquisite handmade local crafts. The only room among the four luxury suites with a spacious terrace, where every guest can enjoy sweeping views of the Chao Phraya River, legendary Wat Arun and Wat Kanlayanamit.
Authentic Royal Thai Cuisine Reminiscent of the Palace’s Original Recipes
On my first evening, a romantic outdoor table set-up has been arranged for dinner, with a sight you can’t miss, the gleaming Wat Arun. The restaurant serves a set menu, an authentic Royal Thai Cuisine reminiscent of the Palace’s original recipes.
For #MichelinGuide taste hunters, a culinary journey awaits at Chakrabongse dining, authentic Thai recipes recognized in this year’s Michelin Guide Thailand 2020.
What a Fabulous Way to End my Stay. . .
I was thrilled to know that they’ve arranged a river tour on my last day. Experiential history class? A fabulous way to rediscover the historic river cruising in their Classic Riva speedboat escorted by a private guide is the cherry on the top.
Chakrabongse Villas isn’t just about a place for holiday staycations. The preserved Thai culture, the rich history of the home, and the experience of authentic Thai hospitality by the family-run estate make the whole stay unique, it’s the Chakrabongse lifestyle experience.
